2 AMC Institute Members Merge To Form Denver’s Civica Associations, Conferences & Exhibitions

Association, Conferences & Exhibition Management of Denver has combined with its crosstown rival, Civica Management, to form Civica Associations, Conferences & Exhibitions, the companies announced.

The combined company has as full-service management clients a mix of national, regional and state trade associations and professional societies. Civica, which before served primarily health and hospitality associations, now adds clients in sectors including education, public safety, retail, insurance and historic preservation.

Both AMCs are members of the AMC Institute. Civica’s founder, Don Knox, who is former business editor of The Denver Post and the Rocky Mountain News, will helm the combined firm with ACE’s founder, Dorothy Shadrick, MBA, CAE, sharing top leadership duties while serving as executive director of some of the firm’s largest and longest-served clients. Along with additional staff members, the new company provides knowledge and experience to provide exceptional service to its clients.

Reporting to Knox and Shadrick are three directors, Sonja Hix-Cortina over membership, Susan Nolte over finance and Stacie Cisco over events. Hix-Cortina and Nolte have worked for Civica and its predecessor, Caruso Group International, for a number of years; Cisco — a veteran of EchoStar, CH2M Hill and The Arrangers Destination Management Company — was hired into her position recently.

“Through this combination, Dorothy and I intend to provide our clients with more resources and our employees with greater opportunities for professional growth,” Knox said. “Those two things, combined with our strongly held belief in the power of transformation, will fuel future growth for our clients and for our management organization.”

Shadrick said, “I am impressed with the level of experience, knowledge and skills that this new team is able to offer our clients. The opportunities to enhance our services to our current and future clients is exciting.”
