DON KNOX, MANAGING DIRECTOR, CHIEF STAFF EXECUTIVE

A former business editor of The Denver Post and the Rocky Mountain News, Don founded Civica after managing a nonprofit, pro bono, in a down economy. He views AMCs like Civica as "sharing economy" companies because they let nonprofits share experienced staff who are specialized and cross-trained. Don has a BS in Journalism from the University of Kansas.

KIM GILL, MA, CAE, CHIEF STAFF EXECUTIVE

Kim has a 20-year record of nonprofit leadership spanning from New York to Colorado and including work for professional societies and trade associations serving lawyers, Realtors and contractors. She has an MA in Marketing Communications from Boston's Emerson College and a BA in Communication Studies from the State University of New York-Oswego.

Sonja HIX, VICE PRESIDENT OF OPERATIONS

Sonja worked for nearly six years in member services for Civica predecessor Caruso Associates before becoming conference coordinator for the Investment Management Consultants Association. Missing the fast pace of an AMC, she later rejoined her colleagues. She has a BA in Communications from the University of Colorado.

Susan’s team provides corporate-quality accounting for Civica and its nonprofits. She joined Civica predecessor Caruso Associates in 1999. In her free time, Susan serves as treasurer for the Colorado Masters Swim Association, a part of the United States Masters Swim program. She has a BS in Psychology from Colorado State University.

Mary FITZGERALD, DIRECTOR OF CONFERENCES

Mary, a Boston-area native, joined Civica in 2019 and has 12 years’ experience planning meetings and trade shows for organizations based in Denver, San Diego and Washington, D.C. She is responsible for managing Civica’s conference team. Mary has a BA in English with an emphasis in Communications from Salve Regina University, Newport, Rhode Island.

Jacqueline joined Civica after serving as development director of the Arthritis Foundation in Denver and as admission lead at the Milwaukee, Wis., Public Museum. She has a BS in Nonprofit Management from Indiana University.

Chandler served as marketing director for a San Antonio orthodontist practice, where she helped launch a second location through media campaigns and community outreach. She also interned for a veterans-focused PR agency in Alexandria, Virginia. Chandler received her BA in Communication from the University of Texas San Antonio.

Jordan honed her customer-service skills for 5+ years at her college-town copy and print shop, where she led marketing and public relations initiatives. She also had internships at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and at the Cannes Film Festival. Jordan received her BA and MA in Communication from the University of Wyoming.

B.J., who grew up in suburban Denver, joined Civica in 2015 from Association Conferences & Exhibition Management, where he handled bookkeeping and other financial duties for all of the association management company's clients. He has an Associate Degree in Accounting from Everest College in Denver.

Veda has hands-on experience in payroll and accounting as a business owner, and she played key roles in organizing other small businesses. She is one of a handful of AMC finance specialists nationwide with her Certified Nonprofit Accounting Professional certification. Her Accounting certificate is from Emily Griffith Technical College.

Dani sharpened her skills over eight years at a Littleton meeting planning company, and she thrives off the fast-paced meetings and events industry. She has a passion for technology and is skilled in budgeting, food & beverage, and logistics. Dani received a BA in Hospitality, Tourism, and Events from Metropolitan State University in Denver.

Colleen has been executive director of the Colorado Nurses Association, the state's principal professional organization for nurses, since January 2014. Her leadership has always focused on improving the work environment and increasing shared decision-making for and with nurses for the purposes of providing safe and quality patient care.

Emily Zadvorny, Executive Director, Colorado PHARMACISTS SOCIETY

Emily is a clinical pharmacy specialist and consultant pharmacist.   A native of Colorado, she earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Arizona.  Subsequently she completed a general pharmacy practice residency and a managed care specialty residency at the University of California San Diego and earned board-certification as a pharmacotherapy specialist.

DOROTHY SHADRICK, MBA, CAE, CONSULTANT

After working for the State of Colorado and for two national nonprofits, Dorothy in 1987 founded Association Conferences & Exhibition Management Inc., which became part of Civica in 2015. She has a BBA from the University of Denver and an MBA from the University of Phoenix. She's also executive director for some of Civica's largest nonprofits.

ELLEN CARUSO, CAE

Ellen founded two association management companies, in Montana and Colorado, and also served tirelessly as a registered lobbyist for her clients. In 1980, she founded what became Caruso Group International, which became part of Civica in 2013. Her two original clients remain Civica clients to this day.
